Normalizing Mental Health Support During a Global Crisis
As the COVID-19 pandemic upended daily life across California, emotional well-being became a pressing public health issue.
In response, the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) expanded CalHOPE, a FEMA-funded crisis counseling program originally built to support communities impacted by natural disasters. The goal: deliver free mental health resources and resilience support to Californians navigating unprecedented stress and uncertainty.
To meet this urgent need, DHCS partnered with Mediasol to launch Hope Lives Here, a dynamic, statewide public awareness campaign that evolved in real-time alongside the pandemic. From promoting masking and vaccinations to addressing school safety and mental health stigma, the campaign guided millions to CalHOPE.org for free, accessible support.

Impressions delivered across California through adaptive, stigma-reducing messaging that normalized stress, anxiety, and emotional care.
Mediasol’s flexible outreach strategy helped CalHOPE remain responsive to the public’s changing needs—reaching communities at scale, when it mattered most.
